Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

"Only you have the power to change your life." Even Rachel Hollis reminds us of this, and if any of you are assuming this book is the answer to all of your prayers, think again. It is, however, an excellent source of encouragement, and a wonderfully inspirational tool to help you on your way. 

This book was chosen by one of the members of a book club I attend. I looked it up on Amazon the moment I discovered it was this months read, and to my horror, the reviews were darn right awful. To say I felt deflated after reading them was an understatement. But if I expected the other members in my book club to read my picks, it's only fair that I read theirs, bad reviews aside.

I finished this book in just over a day. I couldn't put it down. Now I am dumbfounded by the reviews I read. I found Rachel to be completely relatable, and not the entitled woman that some of the reviews had indicated. If entitled means highly driven, hard working mother of four, then I could agree. The fact is, no matter how different my life is from Rachels, she is a woman with the same hopes and fears as the rest of us. 

This book is honest and from the heart, and frankly, any woman that can admit her bladder has never functioned the same after childbirth, and admits to peeing on her trampoline all while executing the perfect toe touch, puts Rachel in the line of people I wish I could be friends with in real life.

Rachels honesty, humor and vulnerability makes this book feel like you are reading a letter (albeit a long letter) from your BFF. She tackles the lies we tell ourselves as women and is completely transparent as she shares not only the embarrassing events in her life, but some of the most heartbreaking too. Rachel makes no claims to be perfect, but she knows her stuff. I felt as though she was able to call me out on my crap, help me see it for what it is, and let it go.
